Breath - A Play By Samuel Beckett

Breath - A Play By Samuel Beckett

Here is my  interpretation about this Play Breath  by Samuel Beckett.

First of all if we watch this video without any background reading and without knowing that who write this play we must speak this words that

"What is this all Rubbish kind of things".

Yes, we find this play very rubbish at it's first look. While watching this play we also feel Nausea kind of feelings. But when we apply so many things over this we can find that this play is very interesting. Full of philosophies of life. But it is all our interpretations that we are giving to this play.

As Samuel Beckett says in his quote that,

"Nothing is more important than nothing".

Same thing we can apply here that our life is not important as such. We born with some cries as shown in this play. Then comes waste and all types of Garbage. Our life is same like garbage. Nothing  fruitful emerges from it.

How i would like to explain that as said in Bhagavad Gita,

Tumhara kya gaya jo tum rote ho? Tum kya laaye the, Jo tumne kho diya? Tumne kya paida kiya tha jo naash ho gaya? Na tum kuch lekar aaye, Jo liya yahin se liya, Jo diya yahin par diya! Khaali haath aaye, khaali haath chale! Jo aaj tumhara hai, kal kisi aur ka tha, Parson kisi aur ka hoga! Tum ise apna samajh kar magn ho rahe ho, Bass yahi parsantta tumhare dukhon ka karan Hai!

Parivartan sansar ka Niyam hai! Jise tum mrityu samajhte ho Vahi toh jeevan hai! Ek xann mein tum karodon ke swami ban jaate ho, dusre hee xann tum darider ho jaate ho! Tera mera chotta badda, apna paraya, mann se mita do, Vichaar se hata do Phir sab tumhara hai aur tum sabke ho!

It is the central thing.

That's why Nothingness is at the center in this play.

Or we can also say that this waste and garbage is representation of our thoughts that we think that we are something but in actual life we are nothing.

We all are (means All Human Beings) like waste or garbage. It doesn't matters that what we are? We are Shakespeare or Alexander every one are like same,
"A Handful of Dust" which has to destroy

To The Lighthouse By Virginia Woolf

To The Lighthouse By Virginia Woolf

Respected Sir,

As we completed "To The Lighthouse" ....  I observed this many things in this work of art like,

1) We all know that Virginia Woolf has mastery over this stream of consciousness technique and she writes her all of works in this style only. We can see in this novel also that how she portraitist every characters in his subconscious level of mind. Because we all know that human relations are very complicated relations it self and Virginia tries to showcase them with the help of some characters like Mrs.Ramsay and Lily Briscoe. James also don't like his own father. We can not understand character of Mrs.Ramsay fully that why she is doing service for everyone. It is her real nature or she wants something else. Lily Briscoe is also don't know that what she wants till the end of this novel.

May be this novel is a answer for this question that "Women Can't Paint, Women Can't Write".

It is very biographical work of art so we can say that Virginia tries to prove something about her personal relations withe her family members and with others.

2) If we talk about character of Mrs.Ramsay she is very good and ideal image which stands for ancient time similar to ancient woman. But if we think about modern time then she is not ideal woman. Because now a days no one likes to serve any one like servant.  We can not understand Mrs.Ramsay that why she is doig this kind of things. For getting name and fame or she must be thinking to remembered after her death by people like she likes to preserve much. She is trying to preserve her good image in front of other people or her family members who are missing her after her death also and she becomes immortal at the end of this novel.

3) We can interpret that Lighthouse stands for the symbol of Mrs. Ramsay. She always becomes emotional guide for other characters. As Lighthouse is central figure of the novel, she is also in the center of this novel  and other characters are surround her at the periphery.she is guide for her children and for her husband that she is giving guidance for life to her son James as well as to her husband.   But, unfortunately, she becomes a wall between her husband and children. She is not allowing James to meet with his father and after death of Mrs.Ramsay Mr.Ramsay needs support of his children but he couldn't. She gives Light and Enlightenment to her family and family members. She also showed path to Lily Briscoe at the and of this novel.

5) “To the Lighthouse’ is many ways a ‘Kunstlerroman’ novel.  First of all we try to find the meaning of this word that what is mean by this word ‘Kunstlerroman’. It mean "artist's novel" in English, is a narrative about an artist's growth to maturity It means which describes development or a struggle of an artist. It also deals with ‘arrogant rejection of the commonplace life’, in this novel the character of Lily makes it ‘Kunstlerroman’ novel. In this novel Lily Briscoe is a artist and she suffered a lot to establish her work of art that she always in a worries of this words like,"Women Can't Paint, Women Can't Write". She always tries to prove her self and at the end she got the vision that she finished her painting of Mrs.Ramsay. we can also say that this whole novel is it self a struggle of artist to establish his or her art.  Lily Briscoe struggles for her painting as art as well as Mrs.Ramsay struggles for making her own art of living and preserving the human nature.

7) If we try to compare this both the things Novel and Film I found one difficulty that language of novel is more difficult then the language of movie. Because we all know that Virginia Woolf is a master of writing in the style of stream of conciseness. That's why when we read real novel first we understand nothing and then we try for second time we feel more pain in words then dialogue of movie.  Movie is more simplifying this language that's why it doesn't reach to the heart of renders.  So with the help of this statement we can say that novel is more poignant than the movie.
                                                                                                                                                                                   Thank You ..........

Film Review of Midnight's Children And The Reluctant Fundamentalist

Respected Sir,

As apart of education we try to understand every point of view of any text from different aspects. No matters it is film or book. So, when we watch movies based on books we can find more space for imagination and our horizon are more clear and better in that sense.

We watched two movies for academic purpose and after watching this two movies my horizon becomes more better for the term called 'Post - Colonial Studies'.  For me Post Colonial Studies means something that is viewed by others point of view. Means some other people try to defined that what is belong to us and who are we. But after the lectures of Dr.Balaji Rangnathan Sir i came to know that Post Colonial Studies is not a negative term or rather it's holding both the things. Positive and Negative both. So,with the help of this both of things i can describe very well that what is Post Colonial Studies and how it is used in this both movies
 (1) Midnight's Children
 (2) The Reluctant Fundamentalist

(1) Film Review of Midnight's Children :-

Midnight's Children is novel written by very renowned writer  Salman Rushdie . And this movie under the same name Midnight's Children is made by Deepa Mehta. She an Indo-Canadian film director and screenwriter, Most known for her Elements Trilogy, Fire (1996), Earth (1998), and Water (2005).

Cast :-
Satya Bhabha as Saleem Sinai
Shriya Saran as Parvati
Siddharth Narayan as Shiva
Darsheel Safary as Saleem Sinai (as a child)
Ronit Roy as Ahmed Sinai
Soha Ali Khan as Jamila

Review

This movie is covering whole story of the narrator Named Saleem Sinai. He is narrating his whole life through one story based on his memory. When we say based on memory that time we think that how authentic is this story ? Is this authentic or not? We don't have any proof that this story is real or not. In this movie one character Parvati is also trying Magic Realism in this movie. Now what we understand trough Magic Realism?. Magical realism, magic realism, or marvelous realism is literature, painting, and film that, while encompassing a range of subtly different concepts, share in common an acceptance of magic in the rational world. It is also sometimes called fabulism, in reference to the conventions of fables, myths, and allegory. Of the four terms, Magical realismis the most commonly used and refers to literature in particular that portrays magical or unreal elements as a natural part in an otherwise realistic or mundane environment. (Sources from Wikipedia).

We can say that this movie is a story of two persons first is Saleem and second is Shiva. This two names it self suggest that how religion plays vital role in Post Colonial Studies. That it self talks about two nations India and Pakistan. During the war when Saleem cam to India he says that "I'm back in to MY INDIA". It suggest its belonging here. He born in India when novel begins and he also comes back to India when novel ends.

What people expected from India when India
got freedom and what is the condition of India now is very well exemplified in this movie by Deepa Mehta.

(2) The Reluctant Fundamentalist (2012) :-

Second movie is The Reluctant Fundamentalist (2012) by Mira Nair. She  is an Indian filmmaker and actress based in New York. She made films based on novels.

She also made one movie named The Namesake. This movie The Namesake is based on one novel written by Jhumpa Lahiri under the same title The Namesake (2004). This film is released in 2006. This film is also very good and she given appropriate justice to this film also.

If we talk about The Reluctant Fundamentalist this film is similar to the movie called  New York (film) released in 2009. In New York movie hero's motif is to take revenge and here in this movie we can say that hero's motif is good to forgive everyone.

This movie is a story of one person named Changez Khan. This movie is based on the 2007 novel, The Reluctant Fundamentalist by Mohsin Hamid. This movie is based on Historical Event of 9/11. And The post-9/11 period is the time after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, characterized by heightened suspicion of non-Americans in the United States, increased government efforts to address terrorism, and a more aggressive American foreign policy. The Reluctant Fundamentalist is a post-9/11film, a movie about the impact on one man of the Al Qaida attacks and the American reaction to them.

Cast :-
Riz Ahmed as Changez Khan
Kate Hudson as Erica
Liev Schreiber as Bobby Lincoln
Kiefer Sutherland as Jim Cross
Om Puri as Abu, Changez's father
Shabana Azmi as Ammi, Changez's mother
Meesha Shafi as Bina Khan, Changez's sister

This movie is all about political controversy and 9/11 attack, idea of East and West, American dream of Changez. Professor of Pakistan University Changez and Bobby Lincoln played a vital role in the movie. Other characters of movie are Arica, an American girl, Boss of this company, Sameer, friend of Changez. American dream of Changez is the main incident in this movie. If we connect this incident with Post Colonial angle, we can see that how American’s behave with other country’s people. Slowly and steadily, Changez feels that it is not the real place for him. Firstly, he is very happy to get a job in an American company but then he realizes that whatever order is given by his boss is to be completed by him.

At the end we come to know that he is not killer or he is not terrorist . We have habit of seeing every Muslim as terrorist but it is not truth. Muslims are also human beings. This movie is trying to give message that every Muslims are not terrorists. As Shahrukh Khan says in his movie My Name Is Khan that, "My Name is Khan and i'm not Terrorist".

This movie is also try's to give this message that every Muslims are not terrorists.
